The band was started in 1999 by youth minister, Mark Hall, who is the lead vocalist in the band. The Band initially began as a student worship band in Florida and eventually relocated to Georgia and added several new members to their band. Their albums were efforts on the part of Mark Hall and the rest of the group as outreach projects for youth in the area. Casting Crowns currently has many albums out that have each won several awards. Their first CD spent a record breaking fourteen consecutive weeks at Number 1.
Casting Crowns concluded its 84-city "Come to the Well" tour on May 5 in Houston to an audience of more than 17,000. Across the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 legs, the tour saw 40 arena sellouts, exceeded 370,000 in total attendance and garnered 65,500 child sponsorships through the group's partnership with Christian humanitarian organization, World Vision.
