Show Description

Star Family Circus photo

The Star Family Circus consists of Oscar and Kathy Garcia and their three children, Aaron, Celeste and Reyna.

Oscar was born in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. He’s been traveling all his life with circuses and carnivals across Mexico, South and Central America. In March 1981 he came to the US to work in a Shrine Circus where he met his future wife, Kathy. At that time, he was performing in a flying trapeze act.

Kathy was born in Reading, PA. She traveled all over the US and Canada with circuses. From the age of 2, watching from the back door of the tent, Kathy knew that she wanted to be an aerialist. At the age of 5, she started participating in the circus productions. Her parents were in the management department, so she learned by watching the other performers and participating in their practices. Kathy began performing full time after she graduated from high school. She traveled with circuses performing the single trapeze act and met her future husband in 1981.

When Oscar met Kathy, he didn’t speak English. Kathy only knew a few words in Spanish, but they fell in love and learned each other’s language. They married in December 1981 and combining their talents, they formed new acts that they are still presenting today.

Their first child, Aaron was born in July 1981 in Sarasota, FL. Celeste was born in September 1986 in Alexandria, MN. Reyna was born in August 1989 in St. Louis, MO. Kathy home schooled the children from the very beginning. They received books, paper, pencils, workbooks, everything they required from a fully accredited correspondence school. It really fit into the traveling lifestyle of the Garcia’s. They also benefited from their travels by experiencing many different things that most children have only read about in books. They have been to Hoover Dam in Nevada, and were awestruck at the gigantic Redwood trees in northern California. They have seen the Aurora Borealis Northern Lights in Canada and rode a ferry over the Atlantis Ocean to the Island of Newfoundland in Canada. They felt the spray from Niagara Falls, NY and crossed the border into Canada to experience it from the other side. They have seen the Statue of Liberty, the White House and have even ridden in an elevator to the very top of the Arch in St. Louis, MO. They have met children all over the US and Canada and have learned about many different cultures.

In 1988, Aaron and Celeste made their debut performances in the circus at the ages of 3 and 2. They assisted their mom in the dog act. In 1996, at the age of 6, Reyna started performing an aerial act with Oscar. At the age of 9, Celeste was still assisting in dog act and performing her hula-hoop act. At the age of 10, Aaron started performing the low wire act with Oscar.

The Garcia Family continues to perform together all across the US and Canada. Each one is thankful that they are able to continue the work they love and able to learn more and more about life, people and the world in which we live.
