George Moffett is the reason many people enjoy seeing their favorite musical stars at county and state fairs, and festivals. Growing up on a potato farm just outside of Zanesville Ohio Moffett began his career in the music business while attending Muskingum college. "Being in various bands, I soon realized that we did not work much if there was not someone out there booking us. It was then that I realized the importance and potential of the agency business." He started booking entertainment for college celebrations and fraternal organizations, and that's when Variety Attractions was formed. Moffett started the company while still in college and has built the company into one of the most respected names in the entertainment business. The ensemble of agents/consultants that he has assembled is second to none in their field. Together they are responsible for buying over 15 million dollars worth of talent annually, and work with over 300 events.
He has served on the Board of Directors for the Country Music Association as well as the board of directors for the International Entertainment Buyers Association. In 1994 and 1995 the Academy of Country Music awarded him the Talent Buyer/Promoter of the Year Award. In 1994, 1995, 1997 the Country Music Association bestowed Moffett with the Talent Buyer of the Year. In 1996 the International Entertainment Buyers Association honored him with their Founders Award.
He has also been honored by several states for his contributions to the fair industry. The George Moffett Scholarship is endowed at Belmont University and awarded each year to a student who is majoring in music entertainment or music business. He has a passion for the entertainment business, as well as a sense of caring for everyone he does business with. Many who know him can attest to that. Moffett spends many days on the road and provides many of the top fairs in the country their entertainment. George and his wife Shirley reside in Zanesville and have one daughter Amy and two granddaughters. When history books are written on entertainment George Moffett will have a chapter.
